THIS FILMSTRIP AND CASSETTE TAPE PRESENTATION, PART OF A LAW EDUCATION PROGRAM DEVELOPED FOR THE DADE COUNTY, FLA., SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS, DESCRIBES AND ILLUSTRATES SEVERAL POTENTIAL LAW-RELATED CAREERS.
Abstract
CAREERS DISCUSSED INCLUDE JUDGE, COURT CLERK, BAILIFF, AND LAWYER. THE PRESENTATION'S GOAL IS TO PROMOTE STUDENT UNDERSTANDING OF EACH CAREER'S FUNCTIONS, QUALIFICATION, TRAINING, AND SALARY. JUDGES ARE THE COURTS' CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS. THEY CONDUCT COURT OPERATIONS, INSTRUCT WITNESSES AND JURORS, HEAR AND DECIDE ON QUESTIONS OF LAW, AND PRONOUNCE JUDGEMENTS AND SENTENCES. COURT CLERKS ADMINISTER OATHS AND ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR EXHIBITS. BAILIFFS KEEP ORDER IN THE COURT, CALL WITNESSES, AND ARE RESPONSIBILE FOR THE JURY WHEN IT IS NOT IN THE COURTROOM. COURT REPORTERS RECORD ALL COURTROOM PROCEEDINGS. ATTORNEYS REPRESENT THEIR CLIENTS AND PRESENT EVIDENCE ON THEIR BEHALF. OTHER WORKERS WHO APPEAR IN COURT INCLUDE POLICE AND CORRECTIONS OFFICERS. THE FILMSTRIP IS PART OF THE LAW EDUCATION GOALS AND LEARNING (LEGAL) PROJECT OPERATED BY THE DADE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD. THE PROGRAM GOAL IS TO DEVELOP STUDENT UNDERSTANDING AND SKILLS RELATED TO THE CRIMINAL AND CIVIL (CONSUMER) JUSTICE SYSTEMS.
