THIS ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY CONTAINS APPROXIMATELY 200 CITATIONS AND A LIST OF ABOUT 200 BACKGROUND REFERENCES DEALING WITH REACTION TO CRIME.
Abstract
MATERIALS WERE SELECTED FOR THEIR RELEVANCE TO A GENERAL RESEARCH STUDY UNDERTAKEN BY THE CENTER FOR URBAN AFFAIRS AT NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY. THE MAJOR PORTION OF THE LITERATURE DATES FROM THE 1960'S THROUGH FEBRUARY 1976 AND INCLUDES BOOKS, ARTICLES, GOVERNMENT PUBLICATIONS, AND RESEARCH PAPERS. THE SELECTIONS ARE DIVIDED INTO FIVE CATEGORIES: (1) ATTITUDES AND PERCEPTION, WITH SURVEYS ON CRIME-RELATED TOPICS AND PSYCHOLOGICAL MODELS FOR PERCEPTION AND BEHAVIOR; (2) INDIVIDUAL RESPONSES, SUCH AS BYSTANDER INTERVENTION AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF VICTIMIZATION; (3) COLLECTIVE RESPONSES TO CRIME SITUATION, INCLUDING CRIME PREVENTION AND CRIME WAVES; (4) COMMUNICATION OF CRIME INFORMATION THROUGH INFORMAL AND FORMAL CHANNELS; AND (5) OBJECTIVE STUDIES, SUCH AS CRIME STATISTICS AND RESEARCH CONCERNING CAUSES OF CIRME AND PREVENTION PROGRAMS IN SPECIFIC COMMUNITIES. EACH CITATION INCLUDES BIBLIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION AND AN ABSTRACT. INDEX TERMS AND ABSTRACTING SOURCES USED IN CHECKING CITATIONS ARE GIVEN. A LIST OF ABOUT 200 UNANNOTATED REFERENCES ON BROAD ASPECTS OF CRIME AND CRIME PREVENTION CONCLUDES THE BIBLIOGRAPHY. (MJM)
