IN THIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY, A PALESTINIAN REVOLUTIONARY DESCRIBES HER LIFE, POLITICAL BELIEFS, INVOLVEMENT WITH REVOLUTIONARY GROUPS, AND PARTICIPATION IN AIRCRAFT HIJACKINGS IN 1969 AND 1970.
Abstract
BORN IN ISRAEL IN 1944, THE AUTHOR WAS FORCED ALONG WITH HER FAMILY TO LEAVE THE HOMELAND FOR LEBANON IN 1948. HER AWARENESS OF ARAB NATIONALISM AND ZIONISM, AND RESULTING INVOLVEMENT IN POLITICS, BEGAN WHEN SHE WAS 8 YEARS OLD. FROM AGE 12 TO 15 SHE GRADUALLY BECAME AN ACTIVIST MORE AND MORE, FINALLY JOINING THE ARAB NATIONALIST MOVEMENT IN 1958. DURING THE NEXT DECADE, SHE BECAME INVOLVED FIRST WITH FATEH IN KUWAIT, AND THEN WITH THE POPULAR FRONT FOR THE LIBERATION OF PALESTINE (PFLP). HER AUTOBIOGRAPHY CONTAINS EXTENSIVE DESCRIPTIONS AND COMMENTS ON PALESTINIAN AND ZIONIST PHILOSOPHY AND GOALS AND ON THE ROLES OF WESTERN STATES AND THEIR LEADERS IN THE POLITICAL STRUGGLES IN THE MIDDLE EAST, AS WELL AS NARRATIVE ACCOUNTS OF THE TWO HIJACKINGS IN WHICH SHE PARTICIPATED. WESTERN LEADERS AND ARAB REACTIONARIES ARE BOTH DENOUNCED FOR THEIR THWARTING OF PALESTINIAN NATIONALIST EFFORTS. VIOLENCE IS ADVOCATED AS NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS OF THE PFLP. INTRODUCTORY NOTES BY TWO COMMENTATORS, AND PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE AUTHOR, ARAB HOUSING, PALESTINIAN REFUGEES, AND PLANES BLOWN UP BY PALESTINIAN REVOLUTIONARIES, ARE INCLUDED. (CFW)
