TO AID RESEARCHERS INTERESTED IN THE FIELD OF POLICING IN CANADA, THIS BIBLIOGRAPHY CONTAINS MOST OF THE PUBLISHED AND UNPUBLISHED INFORMATION ON RESEARCH PROJECTS, BOOKS, REPORTS, AND ARTICLES RELEVANT TO POLICING IN CANADA.
Abstract
ALTHOUGH 1975 WAS THE OFFICIAL CUT-OFF DATE OF MATERIALS ENTERED IN THIS VOLUME, SOME REPORTS PUBLISHED THROUGH 1977 ARE PROVIDED. ALTHOUGH THE LARGE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION OCCURRING IN ONTARIO AND QUEBEC HAS RESULTED IN AN UNAVOIDABLE REGIONAL EMPHASIS, CONTACTS WERE MADE ON A NATIONWIDE BASIS TO INCLUDE ALL PUBLICLY AVAILABLE RESEARCH PUBLICATIONS AND PAPERS PREPARED BY INDIVIDUALS IN ACADEMIC AND RELATED INSTITUTIONS. REPORTS OF POLICE FORCES, GOVERNMENTS, AND LAW REFORM COMMISSIONS HAVE BEEN INCLUDED, AS WELL AS ANNUAL REPORTS AND SPECIAL INQUIRIES. THE BIBLIOGRAPHY IS DIVIDED INTO NINE CATEGORIES: POLICE ADMINISTRATION; POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS; POLICE EDUCATION, SELECTION AND TRAINING; POLICE HISTORY; PRIVATE POLICING; THE GENERAL ROLE, FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND POWERS OF POLICE; THE POLICE ROLE CONCERNING ARREST; POLICE USE OF DISCRETION; AND POLICE AND YOUTH. WITHIN EACH CATEGORY, LISTINGS ARE ARRANGED ALPHABETICALLY BY AUTHOR AND IN MOST CASES ARE ACCOMPANIED BY ABSTRACTS. CROSS-REFERENCES ARE ALSO PROVIDED WHEN NECESSARY. AUTHOR, TITLE, AND SUBJECT INDEXES ARE PROVIDED. --IN ENGLISH AND FRENCH. (WJR)
