Abstract
THE TEXT IS ORGANIZED INTO FIVE MAIN SECTIONS. THE FIRST SECTION FOCUSES ON BASIC ASPECTS OF THE JOB, INCLUDING GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND ORDERS, POST MANUALS, PERSONNEL GUIDELINES, DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES, PUBLIC RELATIONS, AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES. THE SECOND DELINEATES SUCH ELEMENTS OF SECURITY WORK AS GATE DUTY ASSIGNMENTS, PATROL TECHNIQUES, SAFETY HAZARDS, RADIO COMMUNICATIONS, AND TELEPHONE PROCEDURES. LOCKS AND KEYS, PARKING CONTROL EMERGENCY FIRE PROCEDURES, AND ALARMS ARE ALSO EXPLAINED. THE THIRD SECTION OFFERS DATA ON NOTEBOOKS, REPORTS, REPORT WRITING, MEDICAL EMERGENCIES, AND FIRST AID. CRIMINAL LAW RELATING TO THE SECURITY OFFICER IS THEN DISCUSSED. TOPICS INCLUDE FIELD NOTES ON CUSTODIAL INTERROGATION, THE MIRANDA DECISION, COURTROOM DEMEANOR AND TESTIMONY, FIREARMS POLICY GUIDELINES, AND CRIMINAL LAW DEFINITIONS. SUBJECTS IN THE CONCLUSION INCLUDE OBSERVATION AND DESCRIPTION OF PERSONS, CRIME SCENE SEARCH AND SKETCH, BURGLARY, EMPLOYEE THEFT, FIELD INQUIRY, PROWLERS AND LOITERERS, ROBBERY AND THEFT, ASSAULT AND BATTERY, INJURY ACCIDENTS, MALICIOUS MISCHIEF, STOLEN PROPERTY, LABOR DISPUTES, AND BOMB SCENE PROCEDURES.
