THIS CARTRIDGE HEADSTAMP GUIDE IS AN ILLUSTRATED INDEX OF SMALL ARMS CARTRIDGE CASE HEADS FOR USE BY THE MILITARY, POLICE, AND PRIVATE COLLECTORS.
Abstract
INFORMATION INCLUDES CALIBER MARKINGS BUT COVERS NO MARKINGS ON CASE BODIES OR BULLETS, COLOR CODING, CANNELURING, IDENTIFYING PRACTICES COMMONLY USED ON SMALL ARMS AMMUNITION. PINFIRE, RIMFIRE, AND INSIDE PRIMED-CENTER FIRE CARTRIDGE HEADSTAMPS ARE PRESENTED. THREE TYPES OF CENTER FIRE CARTRIDGE NUMERAL HEADSTAMPS INCLUDE ARABIC NUMERAL, WESTERN ALPHABET-MARKED, AND MISCELLANEOUS MARKINGS (WHICH MAY CONTAIN SOME ARABIC NUMERALS OR WESTERN LETTERS). MANY DESIGNS ARE SHOWN FOR WHICH LITTLE OR NO INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE; THE MANUAL IS ACKNOWLEDGED TO BE INCOMPLETE DUE TO CONTINUING DESIGN CHANGES AND DISCOVERIES OF OLD DESIGNS. CARTRIDGE MANUFACTURERS ARE LISTED BY COUNTRY, AND THE DESIGNS ARE CODED TO THE LIST. SPECIAL MILITARY MARKINGS FROM JAPAN, THE UNITED STATES, AND SEVERAL EUROPEAN COUNTRIES ARE ALSO PRESENTED. PINFIRE AND RIMFIRE HEADSTAMPS ARE GROUPED BY SYMBOL, NUMERAL, OR ALPHABETICALLY. COUNTRY OF ORIGIN, MANUFACTURER, AND DATE OF MANUFACTURE, IF KNOWN, ARE RECORDED FOR ALL DESIGNS. (PAP)
