THE PIERCE COUNTY, WASH., COMMUNITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT PROJECT (CNAP), SET UP TO DETERMINE COUNTY RESIDENTS' NEEDS AND EXPERIENCES WITH EXISTING PUBLIC AGENCIES, IS DESCRIBED.
Abstract
IT WAS ALSO IMPLEMENTED TO DETERMINE THE COMPOSITION OF THE COUNTY'S POPULATION AND TO FIND EMPLOYMENT FOR MANY COUNTY UNEMPLOYED. TO THIS END, 169 INTERVIEWERS WERE HIRED AND TRAINED THROUGH THE USE OF CETA FUNDS. OF THE 80,000 HOUSEHOLDS IN THE COUNTY (EXCLUDING THE CITY OF TACOMA), 20,000 WERE SURVEYED. IN EVERY QUARTER-MILE SUBSECTION OF THE COUNTY, 26.8 PERCENT OF ALL THE HOUSEHOLDS WERE SURVEYED, AND INFORMATION WAS GATHERED ON EVERY CITY, UNINCORPORATED AREA, AND EVEN NEIGHBORHOODS. THE SURVEY DATA CAN SERVE AS A MAJOR TOOL FOR GOVERNMENT, BUSINESS, AND SERVICE AGENCIES IN PLANNING FOR MANY DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF THE COUNTY. PART OF THE SURVEY ON LAW ENFORCEMENT CONCERNS, INCLUDING FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTIONS FOR THE COUNTY AS A WHOLE, IS APPENDED. (TAG)
