Abstract
ALL DEPUTY CHIEF PROBATION OFFICERS PARTICIPATED IN THE COURT'S FIRST COMPREHENSIVE TOP LEVEL MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM WHICH WAS CONDUCTED IN 1977 WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF TRAINING SPECIALISTS. IN 1978 THE FIRST CONFERENCE ON DISPOSITIONS WAS HELD INVOLVING ADMINISTRATORS OF THE MAJOR AGENCIES DEALING WITH THE JUVENILE COURT DISPOSITIONAL PROCESS. A SECOND COURTROOM FOR JUVENILE CASES WAS ADDED IN THE SUBURB OF SCHAUMBURG. SIGNIFICANT NEW SERVICES IN THREE MAJOR AREAS WERE BEGUN DURING 1977 AND 1978: A PROGRAM FOR VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ABUSE, THE HEARING OF CERTAIN ADULT CASES IN JUVENILE COURT IN WHICH THE VICTIMS ARE CHILDREN, AND IMPROVEMENTS IN THE EXISTING VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. TWO ADDITIONAL RESEARCH SPECIALISTS WERE HIRED IN 1978, RESULTING IN THE PRODUCTION OF THREE STUDIES FOCUSING ON RECIDIVISM AMONG VIOLENT OFFENDERS, THE SPEED OF ADJUDICATION, AND TELEVISION VIEWING BY JUVENILE OFFENDERS. IN 1977 A TOTAL OF 13,339 DELINQUENT CHARGES WERE FILED; IN 1978 THE TOTAL INCREASED TO 15,852. CASES ADJUDICATED TOTALED 18,116 IN 1977, AND 16,708 IN 1978. SIGNIFICANT COURT DECISIONS INCLUDED 'IN RE STILLEY,' 'IN RE BEASLEY,' AND 'IN RE MARTIN.' CHARTS, PHOTOGRAPHS, TABULAR DATA, AND AN APPENDIX ARE INCLUDED. (LWM)
