STATISTICS ON THE SALARIES, HOURS, VACATIONS, PENSIONS AND OTHER BENEFITS OF CONNECTICUT POLICE PERSONNEL FOR THE YEAR 1978-1979 ARE PRESENTED IN THIS 13TH BIENNUAL REPORT TO THE PUBLIC.
Abstract
DATA FOR THE REPORT ARE GATHERED IN A SURVEY OF THE STATE'S POLICE OFFICIALS AND ALLOW THE PUBLIC AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AN OPPORTUNITY TO IDENTIFY TRENDS IN POLICE COSTS AND IN PERFORMANCE OF POLICE PERSONNEL. OF THE 183 MUNICIPALITIES SURVEYED FOR THIS BOOKLET, 108 EMPLOY FULL-TIME POLICE; A TOTAL OF 6,060 PERSONS COMPOSE THE FULL-TIME PAID POLICE AND CIVILIAN PERSONNEL OF THESE MUNICIPALITIES. THE MEDIAN STATEWIDE STARTING SALARY FOR PATROL OFFICERS IN 1978-79 WAS $11,541, AND THE MEDIAN MAXIMUM STARTING SALARY WAS $14,055. DATA ARE ALSO PROVIDED ON PENSIONS, INCLUDING THE BASIC PENSION BENEFIT CALCULATION; VACATIONS; SICK LEAVE; RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS; INSURANCE PROGRAMS; MEDICAL COVERAGE; AND EACH MUNICIPALITY'S POLICE DEPARTMENT EXPENDITURES.
