BASED ON QUESTIONNAIRES RETURNED BY 34 STATES AND OTHER RESEARCH, THIS REPORT SUMMARIZES STATE ORGANIZED CRIME CONTROL LEGISLATION ENACTED SINCE JANUARY 1975.
Abstract
LEGISLATIVE DEVELOPMENTS ARE SUMMARIZED IN SUCH AREAS AS PROFESSIONAL GAMBLING, REGULATION OF SPORTING EVENTS, WITNESS IMMUNITY, INVESTIGATIVE GRAND JURIES, POWERS OF PROSECUTION, ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE AND WIRETAPPING, RACKETEERING, AND ORGANIZED CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. THE RELEVANT STATE STATUTE OR AMENDMENTS TO STATUTES ARE LISTED, FOLLOWED BY THE SUMMARY. BECAUSE SOME STATES DID NOT RETURN THE QUESTIONNAIRE AND BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS ATTENDANT IN USING STATUTORY INDICES, THE INFORMATION PRESENTED IS NOT NECESSARILY EXHAUSTIVE. FEDERAL LAW HAS BEEN OMITTED, AND ANALYSIS AND BACKGROUND INFORMATION ARE LIMITED. (WJR)
