Abstract
PREPARED STATEMENTS ARE GIVEN BY SUCH STATE REPRESENTATIVES AS A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE NEW JERSEY STATE DIVISION ON WOMEN WHO SUPPORTS AND HR 2977 AND RECOGNIZES THE NEEDS FOR INCREASED INTERGOVERNMENTAL COOPERATION REGARDING SERVICE CENTERS. THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION, ALONG WITH OTHER NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS, OFFERS PREPARED STATEMENTS AND RESOLUTIONS REGARDING THE AGREEMENT WITH HR 2977, RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING SPECIAL TRAINING PROGRAMS, AND A CALL FOR ADDED EMPHASIS ON FAMILY SUPPORT AND COUNSELING. REPORTS ARE GIVEN FROM DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER WORKERS THAT ARE REACHING VICTIMS (NEW JERSEY), AND FROM PERSONS WHO HAVE SEEN A TREMENDOUS LACK OF SERVICES IN THEIR AREAS (NEBRASKA). RESULTS ARE EXAMINED FROM A STUDY BY THE NATIONAL TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTER ON FAMILY VIOLENCE; THE STUDY SURVEYED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS ACROSS THE U.S. AND IN PUERTO RICO. HANDBOOKS AND MANUALS ARE PROVIDED THAT DESCRIBE PROGRAMS ALREADY IN OPERATION OR THAT EXPLAIN HOW TO START A PROGRAM AND WHAT RESOURCES TO CONTACT. LETTERS OFFERING SUPPORT FOR HR 2977, AND NEWSPAPER ARTICLES REPORTING ON INCIDENTS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ARE INCLUDED. (MHP)
