PROJECTS PROVIDING LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR MALTREATED CHILDREN ARE LISTED BY STATE IN A DIRECTORY PREPARED BY THE NATIONAL LEGAL RESOURCE CENTER FOR CHILD ADVOCACY AND PROTECTION.
Abstract
THE PROJECTS LISTED PROVIDE LEGAL SERVICES TO ABUSED AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN FOR WHOM THE COURTS APPOINT COUNSEL AND GUARDIANS AD LITEM. MOST OF THE PROJECTS ARE AFFILIATED WITH COURTS, LEGAL SERVICE AGENCIES, BAR ASSOCIATIONS, LAW SCHOOLS, OR PUBLIC DEFENDER OFFICES. ALSO LISTED ARE NATIONAL LEGAL PROGRAMS PROVIDING TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO THE LOCAL PROJECTS. APPROXIMATELY 45 LOCAL PROJECTS AND 6 NATIONAL PROGRAMS ARE LISTED, WITH EACH ENTRY NOTING THE PROJECT TITLE, ADDRESS, TELEPHONE NUMBER, AND DIRECTOR. THE RESOURCE CENTER'S PLANS TO PUBLISH A STATE-BY-STATE ANALYSIS OF LAWS ON REPRESENTATION OF CHILDREN AND PARENTS IN PROCEEDINGS INVOLVING ABUSE, NEGLECT, AND TERMINATION OF PARENTAL RIGHTS ARE ALSO NOTED.
