THE REPORT PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF AN ATTITUDE SURVEY OF INMATES AND STAFF OF DWIGHT CORRECTIONAL CENTER IN ILLINOIS CONCERNING THE SESAME STREET GOES TO PRISON PROGRAM.
Abstract
QUESTIONNAIRES WERE COMPLETED BY 231 RESIDENTS AND 86 STAFF MEMBERS, BEFORE THE SESAME STREET PROGRAM STARTED, TO PROVIDE A COMPARISON BASIS FOR A LATER SURVEY. ANSWERS TO THE 21 QUESTIONS FOR RESIDENTS AND 22 QUESTIONS FOR STAFF WERE TABULATED BUT NOT ANALYZED. PARTICIPANTS WERE SURVEYED CONCERNING THE EFFECT OF THE SESAME STREET PROGRAM ON CHILDREN'S VISITS TO RESIDENTS, THEIR INTEREST IN ASSISTING WITH THE PROJECT, AND THEIR ATTITUDES TOWARD THE PRISON ADMINISTRATION AND PROGRAMS. RESIDENTS ANSWERED QUESTIONS ABOUT AGE AND LENGTH OF STAY AT DWIGHT, WHILE STAFF PROVIDED INFROMATION ON AGE, OCCUPATION, SEX, AND WORK SHIFT. BOTH GROUPS WERE QUERIED ABOUT SEEING THE FILM 'SESAME STREET GOES TO PRISON' AND ATTENDANCE AT TRAINING SESSIONS. (MJM)
