THESE STATISTICS GIVE BOTH AN OVERVIEW AND A DETAILED BREAKDOWN OF THE CASELOAD HANDLED BY THE PROBATION AND AFTER-CARE SERVICE FOR ENGLAND AND WALES IN 1978 AND COMPARISONS FOR VARYING PERIODS UP TO 11 YEARS.
Abstract
THE COMPARISON STATISTICS COVER THE LONGEST PERIOD FOR WHICH COMPARABLE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE, UP TO THE 11-YEAR MAXIMUM. THE REPORT IS ARRANGED IN FOUR PARTS. IT PROVIDES BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE CASELOAD AND TYPES OF CASES HANDLED AND A DETAILED BREAKDOWN OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SUPERVISION, TOGETHER WITH INFORMATION ON THE COMPLETION OF INQUIRY REPORTS, WELFARE WORK IN PRISONS, AND MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES INCLUDING ASSISTING THE HOMELESS AND HELPING WITH MATRIMONIAL PROBLEMS. ALSO PRESENTED ARE STATISTICS ON OFFICERS, THEIR AVERAGE CASELOAD, AND RESULTS OF A SAMPLE STUDY--THE NATIONAL ACTIVITY RECORDING STUDY--ON NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED AND THE EXTENT OF EVENING AND WEEKEND WORK. COSTS AND BUDGET DATA ARE INCLUDED.
