THIS BIBLIOGRAPHY IS AN EFFORT BY THE POLICE FOUNDATION'S NATIONAL INFORMATION RESEARCH CENTER TO PROVIDE INFORMATION DESCRIBING WOMEN IN POLICING; IT IS AVAILABLE AT THE FOUNDATION IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
Abstract
THE UNANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY OF APPROXIMATELY 200 CITATIONS CONSISTS OF 9 SECTIONS WITH THE MATERIALS ENTERED ALPHABETICALLY. THE SUBJECTS OF THESE SECTIONS ARE WOMEN IN POLICING, SEXUAL HARASSMENT, PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS, CASE STUDIES, INFORMATION PACKETS, ISSUE PAPERS, KEY LEGISLATION GUIDE, AND INFORMATION PAMPHLETS. THE SEXUAL HARASSMENT SECTION IS DIVIDED INTO COURT DECISIONS AND ARTICLES; MOST OF THE MATERIALS RANGE IN DATE FROM 1970 TO 1980. RESOURCE MATERIALS TRACE THE PRESENCE OF WOMEN IN POLICING AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS OF WOMEN POLICE OFFICERS. INTERVIEWS WITH POLICE ADMINISTRATORS, CIVIL SERVICE EXECUTIVES, JUDICIAL OFFICIALS, AND MEN AND WOMEN POLICE OFFICERS IN D.C., MIAMI, DENVER, HOUSTON, AND DETROIT STRENGTHENED THE RECOGNITION OF A NATIONAL DEMAND FOR VARIED INFORMATION ON WOMEN IN POLICING AND THE NEED FOR RELEVANT ANALYSES OF THE LITERATURE, LEGISLATION, AND JUDICIAL DECISIONS PERTINENT TO WOMEN POLICE OFFICERS.
