327,,US,EN,,01 CONJUNCTION WITH A SERIES OF STATISTICAL REPORTS PREPARED BY THE GOVERNOR'S COMMISSION ON LAW ENFORCEMENT AND THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE, THE REPORT IS INTENDED TO PROVIDE A BASE FOR MAKING MORE SYSTEMATIC, RATIONAL CHOICES ABOUT THE NEEDS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE CRIMINAL AND JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. ONE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THIS REPORT IS TO DISTINGUISH THE COSTS AND RESOURCES ASSOCIATED WITH ADULT OR CRIMINAL JUSTICE FROM THE OVERALL JUSTICE COSTS. INFORMATION SOURCES FOR DEVELOPING THE ESTIMATES OF COSTS AND RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE STATE AND LOCAL BUDGETS, AGENCY ANNUAL REPORTS, SPECIAL REPORTS AND INFORMATION MAINTAINED BY THE AGENCIES, PERSONAL INTERVIEWS WITH KEY AGENCY ADMINISTRATORS, AND QUESTIONNAIRES SUBMITTED TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES. THE PRESENTATION OF MATERIALS IS DIVIDED INTO FOUR SECTIONS: (1) OVERVIEW OF MARYLAND JUSTICE SYSTEM COSTS AND PROCESSING, (2) LAW ENFORCEMENT COSTS AND PROCESSSING, (3) ADJUDICATION COSTS AND PROCESSING, AND (4) CORRECTIONS/TREATMENT COSTS AND PROCESSING. THE REPORT INCLUDES NUMEROUS STATISTICAL TABLES AND GRAPHS. THE QUESTIONNAIRES SUBMITTED TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES, COST COMPARISON GRAPHS, AND COST COMPARISON TABLES ARE APPENDED.
