THIS REPORT PRESENTS EXERCISES DEMONSTRATING THE CAPABILITIES OF POLICE/PLAN, A POLICE RESOURCE ALLOCATION PLANNING SYSTEM DEVELOPED FOR THE APPLE-II MICROCOMPUTER.
Abstract
THIS REPORT IS PART OF THE PROJECT 'EASY-TO-USE POLICE RESOURCE ALLOCATION PLANNING TOOLS--PRACTICAL DERIVATIVES OF SOPHISTICATED COMPUTER-BASED PLANNING MODELS' FUNDED BY THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE. THE EXERCISES DEAL WITH AN ANALYSIS OF PATROL OPERATIONS IN A HYPOTHETICAL COMMUNITY USING THE THREE SYSTEM COMPONENTS--PATROL/PLAN, BEAT/PLAN, AND DATA/PLAN. ALL NECESSARY BACKGROUND INFORMATION AND INPUT DATA ARE SPECIFIED IN THE REPORT, BUT THE EXERCISES ASSUME FAMILIARITY WITH PROCEDURES FOR USING POLICE/PLAN ON THE APPLE-II MICROCOMPUTER. FIELD TESTS OF POLICE/PLAN HAVE SHOWN THAT IT CAN BE USED BY PERSONS WITH NO PRIOR DATA PROCESSING EXPERIENCE. IN ADDITION, IT CAN BRING SOPHISTICATED PLANNING CAPABILITIES TO SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED POLICE DEPARTMENTS. TABLES AND FIGURES ARE INCLUDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
