This trainer's guide presents the content, activities, and background information for a course on planning and evaluating programs designed to prevent and reduce violence, vandalism, and disruption in schools.
Abstract
The 9.5-hour course is part of a 7-course curriculum intended for teachers, school security personnel, and community organization representatives. A team of three trainers who have both standard training skills and content area knowledge should conduct the training program. The course's instructional objectives are to develop familiarity with methods for building community awareness, to develop planning ability, and to provide experience in writing objectives and developing task plans. Additional objectives are to develop familiarity with the evaluation process and to develop planning agendas for use in participants' own schools. The course's five modules are taught through lectures, slide presentation, written exercises, group discussions, and role planning. For each module, the training guide includes a synopsis, a summary of content and major learning activities, and a detailed step-by-step narrative which includes directions for the trainer. Lists of materials and equipment needed, additional readings covering selected parts of each training module, summaries of the core curriculum modules and optional modules, and a list of 13 audiovisual resources are included. For other trainer's guides, see NCJ 69757-62. For participants' guides, see NCJ 69749-55.
