The 7-hour is intended for teachers, school administrators, students, parents, youth advocates, school security personnel, and community organization representatives. The course's instructional objectives are to identify sources of conflict, to present methods for dealing with conflict, to review programs schools have used to resolve conflict and defuse tension, and to examine gang psychology and behavior and suggest containment strategies for it. Additional goals are to describe characteristics of people prone to victimization, to suggest ways to reduce their vulnerability, and to examine approaches to increase intercultural sensitivity. The course's five modules are taught through lecture, audiovisual presentation, role playing, and group discussion. For each module, the training guide includes a synopsis, a summary of content and major learning activities, and a detailed step-by-step narrative which includes directions for the trainer.
