The Pretrial Services Resource Center proposes to channel the national debate on bail and speedy trial into a useful refocus on the entire pretrial process; its annual journal addresses some pretrial problems.
Abstract
This second volume includes articles on the following issues: court intervention in pretrial services (case study of the Alberti Decision in Houston), a survey of State drug offenders diversion authorities, rural pretrial services, and a history of formalized diversion in this country. Other articles discuss preventive detention of juveniles, an empirical study of failure to appear rates among accused offenders, a report of an experimental study in juvenile diversion evaluation, and preliminary findings of the Phase II national evaluation of the outcomes of pretrial release. Also, a study examines the pretrial release decision in over 3,500 cases before and after the legislative changes in Canada's judicial interim release provisions. An introduction outlines the purpose of the Pretrial Services Resource Center and states some of the principal considerations in developing an efficient pretrial system. Articles include footnotes, tables, and references. For individual entries, see NCJ 63953 and 69869-72.
