Abstract
The Strike Force was formed during an LEAA grant, 1970-72. As of October 1971, the force was comprised of two units. Tactics and techniques in use by Strike Force officers include changing cars during patrol, foot patrols, fast sweeps of previously worked districts, and moving surveillance of automobiles. Strike Force officers also act as uniformed security during narcotics or vice raids in an assigned area. A unit concept of the force is maintained by rotation of partners and unit commendations. Community relations are fostered by distribution of informative pamphlets during public meetings, public appearances by Strike Force Officers, and foot patrols in low income areas. Close relations are maintained through information exchanges with the intelligence, vice and narcotics, and the burglary sections of the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Training of Strike Force officers is continuous and includes reports on legal and judicial opinions, reading of the rules and regulations of the Omaha Police Division during roll call, monthly pistol shoots, monthly inspections, and refresher courses. Accomplishments of the Force during the grant period include narcotics arrests, 198 felony arrests, 46 juvenile arrests, 268 vice squad arrests, and recovery of 39 stolen autos. Since the project was seen as successful, Omaha has continued funding after the expiration of the LEAA grant. Sample report forms and statistical information sheets are included.
