Although the data presented support observations made in the report, they are presented separately to enhance the report's readability, since essential data have been extracted and included in the report as figures, charts, and tables. The first data set was compiled from the 1976 county audit reports provided by the State Department of Audits and a questionnaire mailed to each of the 82 chancery clerk offices. The second data set was compiled from the 1976 and 1977 reports filed by the justice court judges with the Office of the Secretary of State. These reports are required to be filed at the end of each calendar year and contain financial information for individual justice court judges in the areas of receipts from the county treasury, and disbursements. The third set of data is composed of that information which was collected by on-site visits to the sample of 105 justice courts. See NCJ 70127-33.
