Abstract
The Commission's activities concentrated on investigating and obtaining evidence of penal violations and other regulatory laws pertaining to the New Jersey-New York Harbor, with emphasis on such organized criminal activities as major cargo thefts, gambling, and loanshark operations, and also in the continuing development and expansion of the Waterfront Commisstion's intelligence system relating to organized crime. A total of 369 investigations were conducted, resulting in 126 arrests. Notable successes were the uncovering and breaking up of a theft ring specializing in stealing frozen food from the piers, investigation of an organized ring of car thieves shipping cars to Central and South America, and the arrest of a major loanshark on a New Jersey pier. Specific details on numbers and types of personnel retained and equipment purchased during the project's course are provided.
