This article describes the risks to which identification and authorization documents, or security documents, are subject, and describes a Swedish company's solution to the problem.
Abstract
Criteria that should be applied to identity and authorization documents include an existing link between the identity document and its bearer; the identification and authentication operations; and document components such as text, backing, fingerprints, and photographs. Risks to which such documents are subject include normal everyday risks such as loss and theft, avoidable or preventable everyday risks arising from change in the document's appearance, and various types of fraud, fraudulent alteration, or fraudulent imitation. An identity or authorization document should be recognizable, resistant to wear and tear, and protected from the risks of forgery or counterfeiting. In addition, the blank administrative forms should be protected from theft. Resolutions concerning these documents that were adopted at international conferences on counterfeiting are listed. In addition, the cards produced by AB ID KORT, an identification card company, are described in terms of their particular advantages and security features. Four references and photographs are included.
