This report for the years 1977 and 1978 presents statistical data on both narcotic addicts committed to the California Rehabilitation Center (CRC) and those treated as outpatients.
Abstract
On December 31, 1978, there were 1,331 institutionalized persons (a decrease of 1,100 persons from December 31, 1976) and 4,476 outpatients (480 less than at the close of 1977). The median stay in the institution before the first release to outpatient status during 1978 was the same for men and women. During that year, 62.4 percent of the men and 55.6 percent of the women released to outpatient supervision in 1973, returned to the institution. Extensive statistical data are presented on the characteristics of CRC residents and outpatients as well as on the methods of release from the institution. Graphs, charts, and a note of community correctional centers are included. Tabular data on the addict population by institution, offense groups, and area/county of committment are appended.
