This study examines the affects of differential law enforcement on the perception of local residents of Louisville, Ky.
Abstract
The research is based on a sample consisting of four different racial and socioeconomic groups representing metropolitan Louisville through four selected census tracts. Data were collected through interviews conducted with residents and a questionnaire completed, and analyzed and tested sttatistically by the use of chi-square and Yule's Q. Major findings of the study seem to agree with similar previous research outcomes in other parts of the country. They support the main hypothesis of the study, that a significant difference exists between the selected lower-lower and middle socioeconomic groups, on the one hand and the selected black and white populations, on the other, regarding their opinions on law enforcement in Louisville. Included are footnotes, tabular data, 34 references, and appendixes presenting the questionnaire and a table showing criminal court case outcomes. (Author abstract modified)
