This report contains a statistical summary of fatal motor vehicle accidents in New Jersey during 1979 and includes comparative data for 1975 through 1979.
Abstract
The State continues to maintain one of the nation's safest ratios of traffic fatalities, with a 2.3 death rate for every 100 million miles traveled. This rate has been accomplished partly through voluntary compliance with the 55 mi/h national speed limit and increased enforcement of all traffic laws. Individual sections focus on accidents and fatalities by month of occurrence, by location and roadway classification, accident type classification, hours of occurrence, weather conditions, age of drivers, day of occurrence, and age and sex of pedestrian victims. Other sections contain data on the condition of drivers and pedestrians, alcohol factor, manner of collision, type of vehicles involved, character of road, sex of drivers, what drivers and pedestrians were doing, contributing circumstances, interstate highway fatalities, and pedalcycle and motorcycle involvement. Data tables and graphs and a fatalities-by-county map are included.
