A musician falls behind in his payments and is served a summons by the merchant who sold him a guitar in this consumer-oriented film that discusses the right to a hearing.
Abstract
Intended for high school, college, and adult audiences, the film shows the viewer how the hearing process works for consumers with problems. The process begins with a summons served on the 18-year-old musician. Learning of a neighborhood legal service, the musician visits an attorney who explains his right to a hearing. Later, she points out at the hearing that the merchant's use of enticing advertising may have caused, in part, the current situation. With the help of the presiding judge, the musician and the merchant work out a new agreement. The film also emphasizes the importance for consumers of letting merchants know of money problems right away and of answering a court summons.
