Six appendixes to a report recommending strategies to counter crimes against businesses are presented. They describe the LEAA grant project calling for a national action plan against economic crimes and the steps taken to implement that project.
Abstract
The LEAA grant project description details the plan to develop a strategy to counter crimes against business, to promote attention to these crimes, and to engender cooperation between law enforcement and business. A summary of interviews with over 30 specialists in economic crime focuses on problems and possible solutions to the economic crime dilemma. Also appended are concept papers which offer analyses and recommendations for demonstration projects dealing with deterrents, defense, and demotivation for economic crimes in the retail, manufacturing, hotel, and insurance industries and for research projects on arson, computer-assisted crime, the model statutes program, economic analyses of crimes against business, and a model package for prosecution of economic crimes. Other concept papers suggest criminal justice system modifications and present recommendations concerning a national data base and communications and institutionalization. These papers formed the basis of consideration for workshop panels held in 1977 in New Orleans and New York. A summary of the panel recommendations is appended. Also appended are the names and addresses of Crimes Against Business Council members, workshop participants, and those interviewed for the project. For the main report, see NCJ 72752.
