This manager's manual for retrofit startup focuses on management decisions which must be made in implementing energy conservation programs for existing buildings.
Abstract
The manual provides assistance in developing a plan of attack, establishing schedules, selecting buildings, creating preliminary energy savings estimates, developing engineering work statements, and other related activities. The basic goal is to aid in planning and administering an energy conservation program with emphasis on fast-payback conservation options. The building retrofit process is divided into four distinct work phases and has been employed in the same basic form on numerous retrofit projects: (1) review of current energy consumption and selection of the most promising facilities for retrofit, (2) detailed engineering and architectural study of potential energy conservation modifications for selected facilities, (3) implementation of desirable retrofit changes, and (4) monitoring of energy savings achieved and aggressive followup maintenance programs. The specific steps in each phase are detailed and recent examples of successful retrofit projects are discussed. Figures are provided. A bibliography lists 17 references. Appendixes include related references, a list of 10 steps for immediate energy savings, energy consumption study data requirements, energy consumption study methods, retrofit options by climate zones, forms, and a list of computer energy programs.
