Efforts of the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) to aid in the development of a national strategy for containing white-collar crime are described. The book is based on a 1978 symposium held at the Battelle Seattle Research Center.
Abstract
The book begins by reviewing the need for a national strategy to contain white-collar crime, considering the place of enforcement against white-collar crime as part of our criminal justice system, and examining the development and implementation of a national strategy. An introduction and background description is given of the 1978 symposium that was commissioned by the NDAA Economic Crime Project. The book presents some principles to support a national strategy for containing white-collar crime and considers the problems of such containment in generating competition for the criminal justice system's limited resources. The development and implementation of a national strategy are examined. The process includes setting appropriate goals, determining the role of evaluation and educative or consensus-building programs, and identifying the proper sources for designing a national strategy. A final review discusses some barriers to program implementation and significant steps that were taken to further national strategy development. Notes and tabular data are given. Three appendixes contain lists of symposium participants and a description of sessions, a statement on white-collar crime by the Director of the Battelle Law and Justice Study Center, and bylaws of the Executive Working Group for Federal-State-Local Prosecutorial Relations.
