This annual report describes the activities of the Montana Highway Patrol during 1978.
Abstract
The report includes introductory comments which are followed by sections that focus on statewide law enforcement activities, personnel and training, communications, school bus inspections, supply and equipment, public information and safety, driver licensing activities, and accidents. The patrol's activities included the issuing of 105,967 citations and 105,780 warnings for violations of highway traffic laws; the investigation of 11,492 traffic accidents; and the arrest of 128 criminal offenders. Patrolmen worked 406,719 hours and traveled 6,549,592 miles. They watched over 974,878 registered vehicles (6,330 per man) and 578,856 licensed drivers (3,759 per man). The sale of 2,301 trip and special fuel permits yielded $29,932.50. Maps photographs, and numerous, detailed tables are included. (Author abstract modified.)
