Data are provided on adult and juvenile confinements to county detention facilities and to city and village lockups in 1979 in Wisconsin according to the six regional divisions of the Bureau of Community Corrections.
Abstract
Table one shows the average daily population (sentenced and unsentenced), highest daily count, and rated capacity of each county jail by Community Corrections Regions. Table two presents information on adult confinements categorized into two basic groupings: number held and number sentenced in county detention facilities. Table three shows percent change in total 5-year adult population growth in Wisconsin and compares these data with percent change in adult confinement growth by counties. Table four indicates detention rates of adult and juvenile confinements per 1,000 of each county adult and juvenile population. Additional tables provide data on length of juvenile detentions by sex in county jails and detention facilities and show the number of adult and juvenile confinements by sex in the 61 Wisconsin municipal lockups. These lockups are used to confine unsentenced persons for a short period of time (usually less than 72 hours) until either bond is posted or initial court appearance is make. Six graphs presented five- and fifteen-year comparisons of adult and juvenile confinements by sex, offense group, and region in county jails and in city and village lockups.
