This report provides statistical information about the 3,297 male and 137 female residents of adult correctional institutions and community correctional residential centers in Wisconsin on December 31, 1979; trends between 1975 and 1979 are summarized.
Abstract
There were 3,208 men in 7 correctional institutions and 120 women in 1 institution; 89 men and 17 women were in 5 community correctional residential centers, housing offenders soon to reenter the community. Trends in the correctional institutions for 1975 to 1979 included as decline in inmate population, a rise in median length of stay for men, and fluctuating median lengths for women. For the first time the birthplaces of the residents and the numbers and percentages of those involved in assault, drug, and/or sex offenses were included in the report. Other data include information on the offenses committed, type of offender, race, age, county of commitment, length of sentence and time in institution. Extensive tabular data are provided.
