The activities of South Dakota's Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training Commission during 1979 are described in this annual report.
Abstract
In 1979, 104 officers enrolled in the general law enforcement training session and applied for certification. Two officers were dismissed from the session for disciplinary reasons, and two failed to meet the minimum standards for employment. Of 11 officers who requested reciprocity certification, 9 were granted it based upon the completion of an equivalent training program. The law enforcement training staff inspected reserve unit records in the entire State. The records indicated that the 18 reserve units were staffed with 228 officers and that 166 of these were already certified. The remaining 62 officers were in the process of meeting the minimum training requirements. Information on expenditures and financing, commission staff, the Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training Act, and future projections is also included. Appendixes include information on the minimum standards for the selection of law enforcement officers, the approved 200-hour basic training course curriculum, and on rules for the certification of regular and reserve law enforcement officers.
