Emphasis in the report is placed on briefly describing the status and content of ongoing, completed, and newly funded criminological research projects authorized by the Australian Criminology Research Council under the Criminology Research Act of 1971-73 for the year ending June 30, 1977.
Abstract
Research grants were awarded by the council to enable 14 projects to be undertaken or continued during the year. The subject matter included police stress and manpower studies, a psychological study of juvenile offenders, judicial studies on sentencing and avoiding court delays, and preventive programs to reduce delinquent behavior. Five completed research reports funded by the Criminology Research Council are summarized, and 14 additional council-funded projects in progress are briefy identified. A review of council activities since 1972 notes the recent shift toward council support for research on policing and court practices, in contrast to past emphases upon aspects of criminal behavior or the implementation of correctional techniques. Other sections list council membership and provide financial statements of the council's assets, receipts, and expenditures.
