Matched experimental and control group (n=7) were compared with respect to the number of new referrals to court, number of placements of the delinquents outside the home, number of delinquents returned to court, and number of delinquents expelled from school. In the treatment for the experimental group, the participants were seen twice a month by the probation officer who conducted individual and group counseling sessions with them once a month. Only individual counseling sessions once a month were conducted with the control group participants. The study covered a 6 and one-half month period during a regular school term. In the experimental group, there was a 57 percent increase in new court referrals, while in the control group, there was a 129 percent increase in new referrals. Similar patterns held for the two groups relative to placements outside the home, returns to court, and expulsions from school. The results indicate that adjudicated delinquents can benefit from a behavior management and resocialization program. Tabular data are provided.
