Abstract
The Idaho Uniform Crime Reporting Program involves the compilation, classification, and analysis of crime statistics reported by police agencies throughout the State, pursuant to guidelines and regulations subscribed by law. In 1978, 98 agencies were solicited to participate in the program. Crime in the U.S. for the year 1978, as measured by the Crime Index Offenses, increased 1 percent, while crime in Idaho decreased by 0.3 percent when compared with the crime rate in 1977. On the national level, violent crimes increased 5 percent and in Idaho, these crimes increased 2 percent. In addition, the crime of murder showed no change in Idaho, forcible rape increased 1.8 percent, robbery increased 3.5 percent, and aggravated assault increased 2.1 percent. Furthermore, Idaho experienced a 0.4 percent decrease in property crimes. The report presents tabular data and graphs on murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, arson and vandalism, and Idaho arrest data. Information also is given on law enforcement officers assaulted and law enforcement employee data.
