Family violence can occur between husband and wife, parent and child, or between siblings. It includes a broad range of actions, from shoving or slapping at the mildest extreme to brutal beatings, torture, or murder. Corporal punishment, although considered by some to be a legitimate technique of parental control of children, is nonetheless a form of family violence. The citations, abstracts, and research project descriptions included in this document indicate the many aspects of family violence and child abuse now being studied.
