This volume presents seven appendixes to the final report of an 18-month project designed to summarize and assess present knowledge concerning antitheft activities directed at the problems of shoplifting and employee theft in retail businesses. The appendixes include an extensive bibliography and resource listings.
Abstract
A list of poster slogans, sign wordings, and slicks related to antitheft programs is given. The materials were collected from retailers' associations, individual stores, and criminal justice system agencies. Another appendix lists brochures, pamphlets, booklets, and other publications produced by a drug chain, a retailers' association, the Small Business Administration, and other organizations. Brief descriptions and partial texts of newspaper, radio, and television advertisements concerning shoplifting are also provided. Other appendixes present an annotated list of 15 films related to shoplifting and employee theft and a table describing antishoplifting campaigns at the individual, local, State, and national levels. Programs are analyzed according to their messages, intended targets, and channels used. The sixth appendix lists materials offered to the members of Distributive Education Clubs of America. A final appendix includes a bibliography listing 1,154 sources on shoplifting and employee theft. Included are books, magazine articles, and journal articles. For individual reports, see NCJ 73534-35.
