Volume I of the Energy Audit Manual is primarily a guide to the identification and correction of inefficiencies in building energy systems and a practical handbook for energy management task forces.
Abstract
The handbook's core is a logical sequence of steps for conducting energy audits and implementing and monitoring a comprehensive energy management program. Energy use patterns are indicated for educational institutions, hospitals, public buildings, and long-term public care facilities. An energy checklist is organized according to the following seven building systems: administrative, lighting, envelope, ventilation, heating, cooling, and water. Practical energy conservation opportunities, including simple 'quick-fix' low-cost or no-cost options (operational and maintenance) as well as selected capital-intensive energy measures (retrofit and redesign) are indicated in the checklist. Energy data forms show how to record data from individual utility bills and meters in order to determine how much energy is being used. Finally, the elements composing the Energy Audit Report (auditor certification, condition summary, the energy inventory, evaluation of potential for energy conservation measures, and evaluation of potential for solar and renewable resource measures) are presented with special instructions to clarify information requests and facilitate completion of the report. A bibliography of 34 references is included. See NCJ 73546.
