This guide is designed to assist the professional security manager, police officer, and insurance underwriter to better understand the physical vulnerabilities of safes, vaults, alarm systems, and building entry systems.
Abstract
A step-by-step systems approach to managing security risk includes setting objectives; identifying boundaries, risks, and the impact and cost of risk; auditing and improving present security equipment and procedures; developing and comparing alternative solutions; and selecting and implementing optimum systems. A workbook section presents risk analysis questionnaires that simplify risk assessment in the areas of forgery, fire, civil disorder, burglary, and robbery. In addition, the guide presents a checklist of instructions for what to do before, during, and after a holdup and analyzes the varied kinds of protection offered by record safes and vaults, money safes, security vaults, and combination locks. The development of electronic alarm systems is described, and basic alarm system sensors, control and reporting units, line security, surveillance cameras, and alarm systems standards are discussed. Finally, the 1968 Bank Protection Act requirements and insurance service office standards are reviewed, and strategies to protect sensitive areas and to guard against robbery and burglary are detailed. This section covers surveillance cameras, outside alarm connections, and proprietary systems. Extenstive photographs, tabular data, diagrams, an index, and a glossary of security terms are included. Two appendixes contain the Security Devices Section of the Bank Protection Act of 1968 and National Credit Union Administration Regulations.
