The annual report of the Department of Human Services (DHS) of Jefferson County, Kentucky for the calendar year 1979 and a review of the activities of Protective Services are presented.
Abstract
The first section of the annual report examines the types of referrals made to the Juvenile Session of District Court and presents data on the services (youth diversion and delinquency prevention programs, counseling to juveniles and parents) provided to juveniles by DHS. Most information is based on computerized Juvenile Court Intake Forms. A flow chart illustrating the functioning of the Juvenile Justice Systems serves as an outline for the report. The second section of the annual report devoted to adult services, presents information on the Financial Assistance Department and the Nutrition Program for the Aging. The Welfare State Sheet served as the basis for information in the form of computerized monthly reports. The review of the Protective Services Program, which is in charge of investigating reports of alleged child abuse/neglect and of providing assistance to families with abuse/neglect problems, outlines the program's major objectives, presents statistics on the client population, points out problems with regard to the program's information system, and makes recommendations for improvement. Both parts of the report are supported by numerous statistical charts and graphs.
