Abstract
Statistics of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) in San Antonio, Texas, are presented along with a description of the general San Antonio area. The document details objectives for each of 13 countermeasures in the 5 general areas of project management, enforcement, judicial, rehabilitation, and public information and education. The activities conducted under each of these areas to further the goal of reducing the number and severity of traffic accidents caused by drunk drivers are summarized. The thirteen countermeasures include training and selective enforcement, prosecution, court services, probation, and AIDE school. Other countermeasures are an alcoholic treatment program, diagnosis and level II rehabilitation, mass media, citizen involvement, and driver education. Each countermeasure description highlights the significant progress during 1972, 1973, and 1974, notes program impediments, and suggests future plans.
