This handbook was prepared to inform Florida's businessmen and consumers of their rights and obligations to each other under the Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, to prevent abuse of consumers, and to provide a starting place for consumers to determine if a wrong has occurred.
Abstract
The booklet covers advertising and sales; motor vehicle rental or lease; rental housing and mobile home parks; mobile home sales and service; sale of real property; air conditioners, heat pumps, and operation efficiencies; home construction and improvements; and condominiums and cooperatives. In addition, the booklet addresses the topics of franchises, distributorships, referral sales, and multilevel distribution or pyramid sales marketing schemes; contracts for future consumer services from vocational schools, health spas, and dance studios; motor vehicle sales, repairs, maintenance, and service; gasoline and fuel sales; time sharing plans; and lodging certificates. Each chapter also lists effective date of legislation and relevant section of the Florida Administrative Code. A list of enforcing authorities (State's attorneys), including their addresses and phone numbers, is also provided. The consumer is advised to consult the booklet before buying or signing a contract for purchases or services.
