Abstract
The book's first section summarizes laws concerning Courts of Justice, evidence, procedure, record of evidence, powers of arrest, search, and entry. It also discusses modes of arrest and handling of prisoners, compensation and rehabilitation, identification of suspects, taking statements, and making reports. The section on traffic laws deals with classification of motor vehicles, the meaning of terms, offenses connected with the driving of motor vehicles and pedal cycles, and offenses and procedures connected with traffic generally. It also focuses on the construction and use of vehicles and equipment, driving licenses, public service vehicles, regulation of carriage of goods by road, third party liabilities, registration and licensing of vehicles, and other miscellaneous subjects. The crime section deals with police laws concerning principles of criminal liability, classification of crimes and parties to crime, offenses against the public peace, offences against public morals and public policy, and offenses against the person. It also discusses property offenses; offenses against the Crown and the government; offenses concerning public justice, firearms, and forgery; and crime prevention, investigation, and detection. The section on general police duties describes laws governing police and associated organizations, poisons and drugs, betting, gaming, and lotteries. It also focuses on community legislation and laws concerning public safety, trade disputes, children and young persons, liquor licensing, armed forces, plants, and animals. An index is included.
