The 1975 annual report of the Sacramento County Probation Department (California) is discussed, and statistical and graphic data illustrate the information.
Abstract
Descriptions are given of the probation activities of the Field Supervision, Adult Court, and Juvenile Court Divisions and of the Juvenile Hall, Carson Creek Boys Ranch, and the Girls School. The efforts of the Administrative Services Division are reported, and activities in the areas of delinquency prevention, staff development, volunteer services, research and development, clinical services, and juvenile traffic are reviewed. Also included are reports from the chaplain and the School Department. A statistical section contains data on referrals, court activities, and caseloads. The goal of the department is to protect the community by providing rehabilitative services and by diverting offenders from the formal criminal justice system. One example of this philosophy is the development of a project to use community service placements in lieu of fines, formal probation, and incarceration for 800 adult misdemeanants.
