The activities of the Travis County, Tex. Probation Department volunteer program are described and its administrative structure is outlined.
Abstract
Three areas of volunteer involvement in probation program operations are briefly outlined: courtroom assistance in completing forms and records, presentencing investigation assistance, and direct treatment assistance (including counseling, working with individual probationer special needs, and providing community information). Administrative activities outlined include volunteer recruitment, screening, training, supervision, retention, and recognition. Staff responsibilities in working with volunteers are summarized and requirements for keeping records on volunteer staff are noted. An application form, a volunteer counselor monthly progress report, a sample resume for a volunteer, and a 22-item bibliography are provided.
