Individual sections focus on the crime reporting program, crime index offenses, contributing agencies, a summary of index offenses, the value of property stolen and recovered, and arrest data. Other sections are concerned with law enforcement officers killed and assaulted and with planning district statistics. In summary, 210,625 serious crimes were reported; and 21.6 percent of these offenses were cleared. The State's crime rate was 4235.37 Part One offenses for every 100,000 inhabitants. Of the 258,918 arrests made, 15.8 percent involved persons under 18 years of age. The value of property stolen amounted to $59,260,495; 32 percent was recovered. Furthermore, robbery accounted for a property loss of $1,781,840. Residential burglaries accounted for 58.7 percent of all burglaries reported, and 23.2 percent of these were committed at night. A total loss of $18,652,907 resulted from the theft of 11,330 motor vehicles. Firearms were used in 71 percent of all murder and nonnegligent manslaughter cases reported. In addition, 22.5 percent of the 8,378 aggravated assaults reported were committed by use of hands, fists, or feet. Three law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty; and of the 1,481 assaults on officers, 92.9 percent were cleared. Data tables, charts, and graphs are included.
