The purpose of Women Against Rape has been to confront the courts, government offices, all male clubs, and the press with the issue of rape. In the first contribution of this collection, a battered wife recounts her marital conflicts and her difficulties with authorities when trying to break out of her marriage. Another woman emphasizes the particular plight of the black woman faced with economic dependence on her husband. A third woman recounts her experience of being raped while working as a stripper to put her husband through college. The violence lesbian women face both on the streets and in marriage are also described. Further, the national spokeswoman of Women Against Rape outlines the historical development of this movement which attempts to put an end to rape.
